Where Wanting to Help Turns Into Action

Most people want to make a difference, but many face barriers including knowing where to start. We make it simple to show up, serve, and belong.

What is an ANF Service Club?

Service Clubs are local communities that make it easy to turn good intentions into real action—without guilt, politics, or impossible commitments. Just show up, serve together, and make a difference.

What ANF Service Clubs Do

Service Clubs offer three simple ways to turn good intentions into real impact.

Members of a giving circle pooling resources together

Giving Circles

We pool our dollars so we can make bigger, more meaningful gifts together than any of us could make alone. Everyone gives what they can. Everyone gets a voice. Real change happens.

Volunteers at a Sleep in Heavenly Peace bed-build day

Army Activations

Once a month, we roll up our sleeves and serve—together. These are easy, show-up-and-help service days, like building beds for kids who don't have one with Sleep in Heavenly Peace. No planning required. Just show up.

Service Concierge

There are a lot of nonprofits out there—and no one has time to research them all. Our Service Concierge helps cut through the noise by matching you with 2–3 service opportunities that fit your passions, skills, and season of life.

Our Guiding Lights

We believe the strongest communities are built side by side.

ANF Service Clubs improve communities through a combination of easy service opportunities, deep relationships, and empowering people to flourish.

What We Prioritize

Service opportunities that help people thrive through health, housing, transportation, education, economic opportunity, and community. Whenever possible, we believe service should empower people to build alongside each other to achieve transformation—not simply receive help.

What We Avoid

ANF Service Clubs stay focused on service, not politics or policy advocacy. While both are important, they are not our lane. We believe serving alongside people with different perspectives builds stronger communities and greater respect for one another.

Don't have an ANF service club in your town?

It only takes one person to get something going. We'll give you the playbooks and support to start a Service Club in your community. If that might be you.

The Movement

The Founding ANF Service Clubs

These first six Service Clubs are led by normal folks already showing up for their communities. Different paths. Same heart. Each one proving that doing what you can really does add up.

Michael Lignos with a fellow Atlanta club member

Atlanta, GA | Michael Lignos, President | Sleep in Heavenly Peace Core Team Member

Running Toward Dignity

Michael runs with Back On My Feet, where running clubs for people experiencing homelessness have helped more than 10,000 people find jobs and housing. For him, service means moving together—literally—and rebuilding lives with dignity.

John Norman donating platelets

Trey Hightower with friends

Wichita, KS | Trey Hightower, President

Strengthening Community From the Ground Up

As the former Executive Director of the YMCA North Branch, Trey has spent years building spaces where people belong. Now he's bringing that same spirit to an ANF Service Club.

Questions

Everything you need to know about joining and getting started

What does membership involve?

You decide how much to give. Some folks show up monthly. Others weekly. There's no minimum. We meet, we serve, we build something real together in your community.

How do I find service clubs?

Browse our service club map to locate groups in your area. Each service club page shows meeting times, local projects, and how to connect with leaders who can bring you in.

What if no service club exists?

We can help you start one! We provide playbooks, guidance, and support to help you get it off the ground.

If you're interested in learning more, email army@normalfolks.org. Our Executive Director, Alex Cortes, would love to connect and explore what it could look like in your community. Our goal is big: to build the leading service club in America and help every person serve at the level they want to.

That starts with people like you.

Do I need experience?

No. Normal folks are exactly who we're looking for. You bring yourself. We'll handle the rest. Your club leader will show you the way.

How do I join?

By signing up for one of the above clubs. No applications, no fees, no barriers. We meet regularly and welcome anyone ready to serve alongside us. Start with what works for your schedule.

If there isn't one in your area, consider starting one!

What's the cost?

Nothing. Army of Normal Folks is free. We believe service shouldn't have a price tag.

What kind of work happens?

We focus on local needs that matter. Neighborhood cleanups, mentoring, disaster relief—whatever our community needs most. Each club decides its own priorities.
